Proform 160 XP Elliptical
A Detailed Review of the Proform 160 Elliptical & Where To Find It At A Discount
Strengths:
Variety of Workout Programs - The Proform 160 elliptical offers 1 personal trainer workout program which automatically adjusts the resistance of the elliptical to focus on aerobic, performance or weight loss goals.
There are also heart rate workouts which adjust resistance to help you stay in your target heart rate zone. The calorie burn programs help you reach a calories burned goal. And 5 Crosstrainer workouts help you target your upper body, lower body or both at once.
With all of these programs, it makes it easy to stay challenged and keep moving towards you next fitness level.
18" Stride Length - When you consider that most cheaper ellipticals give you only about 14-16" stride length, an 18" stride length is quite good. It ensures that you work more muscles and can give you an overall more efficient workout.
Backlit Display - The Clearview console has multiple backlit colors that you can set to your preference. This makes it easy to ready your workout data while you workout. The console shows your time, speed, distance, resistance, pulse, RPM, calories burned and even carbs burned.
Lifetime Frame Warranty + 7 Year brake warranty - This is a much better warranty than most Proform ellipticals have offered in the past. However be aware that parts and labor are only covered for 90 days.
Weaknesses:
This is an economy elliptical so don't expect a commercial grade feel or construction of say, a Sole elliptical. The warranty is only 90 days and the user weight capacity is a little low at 250 pounds.
Summary:
For an economy elliptical the Proform 160 isn't bad. There are a few economy ellipticals that are better but many others that are worse. We like the overall design of the unit, backlit cosole, variety of workout programs and the decent 18" stride length. It's fair value for the money.
However, because of the lower user weight capacity and limited warranty, we would not recommend it for heavy or aggressive use. If you're looking for a more commercial grade construction with better warranties and user weight capacities, check out a Sole.
