Nordic Track CX 985 Elliptical

A Detailed Review of the Nordic Track CX985 Elliptical Trainer
Strengths:

1 Step™ Power Incline™ - The incline feature lets you change your slope up or down electronically throughout your workout (Incline is not the same as Resistance).

Incline allows you to work different sets of muscles resulting in better crosstraining, more efficient fat burning and reduced injury from overtraining one set of muscles. Incline ranges from 0 - 10%

Incline is usually offered in the $3000+ Precor ellipticals so it's a great bonus feature to have in an elliptical under $1000.

SMR™ Silent Magnetic Resistance - Magnetic resistance uses magnetic pull to create the resistance in your workout.  This makes for a very quiet workout.  Choose from 10 intensity levels to target specific workout and conditioning goals.

iFit Compatible - The Nordic Track CX985 can run optional iFIT.com® workouts in addition to the workouts built-in to your console. This can help fight off exercise boredom and burn more calories over the long run.

8 Built-in Workouts - Choose from a variety of preset workout programs or design your own with iFit.

CardioGrip™ Pulse Sensor - Stay in your target heart rate zone with the pulse sensors. Simply grip the handrail attached to the front console to get an accurate heart rate reading (optional chest strap available).

Workout Fans -  Four fan settings let you choose between low, medium, high or AutoBreeze™, which automatically changes the airflow to match the speed of your elliptical.
Weaknesses:

The CX 985 doesn't offer upper body arms which is a feature that most users prefer. There are other Nordic track elllipticals that also offer incline with upper body arms on the Nordic Track closeout site

Also while the warranty is better than some department store ellipticals (which usually only give you about 90 days), it still isn't great - 1 year on parts.  You might want to buy extra warranty coverage if you can get it, just to be safe.

Conclusion:   Recommended if You Love the Nordic Track Name

If you love the Nordic Track name and don't really care about having upper body arm bars, you'll probably be very happy with the Nordic Track CX 985 elliptical.

It's very affordable and it also boasts the popular incline capability, which is usually found in $3000+ Precor ellipticals.  The incline capability helps you get a better overall workout and this feature alone makes this a decent value under $600.

However, this is still an economy machine and is not recommended for the heavier, taller or more vigorous athlete.  For those people, we'd recommend you look into the higher grade Sole lineup.
