Strengths:
Audio CrossTrainer™ With 2 Built-in Speakers - This functions as an audible electronic Personal Trainer. The console also offers a music port so you can plug in your iPod or other MP3 player and play music or media files through the built-in speakers.
GameFit™ Interactive Fitness Games - The console offers 2 motivational interactive games. Using the dual game controllers on the elliptical arms, you can play the Fat Blocker game or the Calorie Destroyer game while you work out.
A little cheesy? Yes - but it might actually help you get faster results because the harder you exercise, the greater advantage you will have over the game. The console keeps track of the four highest scores so you can try to top your own high score.
Range of Workout Programs - The Proform 20 elliptical offers 9 Targeted CrossTrainer Workouts - 3 focus on your upper body, 3 on your lower body and 3 on strengthening your entire body. There's also 3 personal trainer workouts and 2 heart rate workouts.
12 Resistance Levels - This isn't bad for an elliptical under $1000 and you can easily change resistance levels with the touch of a button.
18" Stride Length - Again, when you consider that most cheaper ellipticals give you only about 14-16" stride length, an 18" stride length is quite good. It ensures that you work more muscles and can give you an overall more efficient workout.
Weaknesses:
The warranty is a little short (1 year parts and labor) and the user weight capacity is a little low. This is an economy elliptical so don't expect a commercial grade feel or construction of say, a Sole elliptical.
Summary: Recommended
The Proform 20.0 elliptical is a cool economy elliptical that makes working out fun. It offers you video games, audio speakers, a longer stride length, front end mechanics and a music port for your iPod or mp3 player. All this for under $700. If you get bored easily or need to challenge yourself when working out you will love this elliptical.
However, because of the lower user weight capacity, we would not recommend it for heavy or aggressive use. If you're looking for a more commercial grade construction, check out a Sole first.
