Strengths:
18 - 20" Stride Lengths - Many cheaper ellipticals offer stride lengths of only 14 or 16 inches. Fuel ellipticals range from 18 - 20" strides, depending on the model.
The larger stride length ensures you work the full range of leg muscles and burn maximum calories. This longer stride length is also appreciated by taller users or those with longer legs as you can stretch out more in the elliptical motion.
Built In Speakers with MP3 Hookup - All Fuel models come with built in speakers and mp3 hookups. While this isn't a necessary feature, it's still a popular one with buyers. It will help keep your workout interesting by listening to your favorite music or audiobook while you workout.
Upper Body Arms - Upper body arms can help you increase your calorie burning and get an overall total body workout. Upper body arm bars are available on all Fuel models.
Articulating footpads - This is a great feature, usually only found in more expensive ellipticals. The footpad rotates slightly during the elliptical motion to keep your feet, ankles and knees in the proper alignment.
Decent Warranty - Fuel machines are covered by a lifetime frame warranty, lifetime brake warranty and 1 year on parts and labor. Not the best warranty, but at this price point, still quite good.
Weaknesses:
Fuel ellipticals use a single roller system instead of the double roller system that you find in higher end ellipticals. This can lead to higher wear because of a greater load on each roller.
So while they may be ok for occasional home use, if you're looking for something that will hold up under heavier use or multiple users you may want to look at a stronger brand like Sole first.
Summary:
Fuel ellipticals are a new entry into the economy elliptical market. They're affordable with longer stride lengths and iPod docks with speakers. This is all covered by a decent warranty.
However reviews have been mixed and the single roller system may lead to higher wear and tear.
At this price point, you may want to go with a more experienced name like Nordic Track. Or if you want a commercial quality machine, look at the Sole ellipticals first.
