A Review of the Nordic track CX938 Elliptical Trainer
Strengths:
SMR™ Silent Magnetic Resistance - Magnetic resistance uses magnetic pull to create the resistance in your workout. This makes for a very quiet workout. You can choose from 10 resistance levels to target specific workout and conditioning goals.
Oversized Pedals - helps you find a comfortable foot hold or change the length of your stride for an optimal workout.
iFit Compatible - The CX 938 can run optional iFIT.com® workouts in addition to the workouts built-in to your console. This can help fight off exercise boredom and burn more calories over the long run.
ClearView™ Backlit Console - The easy-to-read, backlit console keeps track of speed, time, distance, calories, carbs, pulse, resistance and revolutions per minute. While the console is a bit simplistic, for this price it's quite adequate.
Workout Fans - Four fan settings let you choose between low, medium, high or AutoBreeze™, which automatically changes the airflow to match the speed of your elliptical.
Weaknesses:
This is a basic elliptical. With the lower user weight capacity, we would not recommend it for heavy users or vigorous workouts.
Also while the warranty is better than some department store ellipticals, it still isn't great - 1 year on parts. This gives you an idea of the quality of the parts used in construction.
Conclusion: Recommended For Limited Budgets
If you are on a budget, the Nordic Track CX 938 elliptical is definitely a better value for your dollar than several other economy ellipticals currently on the market. It is quiet and smooth in operation, offers upper body arms bars and a fairly straightforward, though simple, console.
The CX 938 however is not recommended for taller, heavier or more frequent exercisers. It simply isn't built for it. If you can spend a bit more you might want to check out the Nordic Track Audiostrider 990 or the Elite 1300 which give you higher user weight capacities and more goodies like built in sound systems and longer stride lengths
