Spirit Elliptical Trainer Review

Strengths:

Up to 20" Stride Lengths - Spirit crosstrainers offer up to 20" stride lengths. A longer stride length can results in an overall more efficient workout and a smoother, more comfortable feel for many users.

Highly Stable - These ellitpicals feel very stable when you use them - even when you pick up the pace.

One sign of the stability of the elliptical trainer is seen in the user weight capacity. The higher the user weight capacity, the more stable the elliptical trainer (other things being equal). These ellipticals start at 300 pounds which is excellent in this price range.

Upper Body Arms - Upper body arms can help you increase your calorie burning and get an overall total body workout. Upper body arm bars are available on all elliptical models.

Solid Warranties - The warranties are pretty decent on Spirit machines, obviously with the higher end units offering better warranties. But even the economy ellipticals are usually better than department store brands.

Weaknesses:

These ellipticals are not as widely distributed as other brands and therefore are harder to find.

Sole ellipticals are more well known, similar in design and construction, offer long 20" strides and have longer warranties (including 2 years on parts). Plus the Sole ellipticals offer incline ability as well - which not all Spirit ellipticals have (particularly the older models).

Summary:

Spirit elliptical trainers, while they may not be as well known as some other brands out there, offer you excellent value for the money.

For the most part, they have decent warranties, up to 20" stride length and and bright, easy-to-read consoles. They're also very affordable, coming in around $1000+.

We would recommend the higher end units before the economy models as they give you better stride lengths, longer warranties and higher grade construction.

Spirit Elliptical Trainers are not as well known as some other elliptical brands however they are definitely worth a look.

The Spirit name is now owned by Dyaco - the same company behind the excellent Sole elliptical lineup.

Spirit produces a range of economy to mid-priced ellipticals mainly going under the Esprit by Spirit name (although you can find some older ZE models kicking around too)
