Strengths:
Folding Ability - Unlike treadmills, it's hard to find an elliptical that folds up. The Nordic Track E5 Si SpaceSaver elliptical folds vertically to store and saves you about 3 feet of floor space. It's also easy to move and store away.
iPod Port with Speakers for Fun, Entertaining Workouts - The E5 comes with an iPod docking stations and built in console speakers. Just plug in your iPod or mp3 player and listen to your favorite tunes while working out. This is a great feature to have in an entry level elliptical.
iFit Compatible for Interactive Workouts - The NordicTrack E5 Si Elliptical console has a built-in iFit card reader. iFit Cards are separate cards that have 8 weeks of interactive workouts on them.
Each workout on the card is designed by a certified personal trainer and plugs directly into the elliptical's console. It will automatically adjust your speed for you and you get a personal trainer's voice guiding you through the workout.
6 Built In Workout Programs - In addition to any iFit card workouts, you also get 4 Personal Trainer workouts which adjust the resistance and pace of the elliptical to focus on aerobic, weight loss or performance goals.
Plus 2 Heart Rate workouts help you stay in your target heart rate zone by automatically increasing or decreasing the resistance and pace when you need to raise or lower your heart rate.
Weaknesses:
While it has some good basic features, it's not as solid as other Nordic Track units. The user weight capacity of 275 pounds is a bit low so it probably wouldn't be suitable for heavy usage.
If you want a more in terms of stability, you might want to look at the more affordable and higher rated Nordic track Audiostrider 990 - which also folds and has a higher user weight capacity of 325 pounds.
Summary: Below Average Elliptical
The Nordic Track Spacesaver E5 Si elliptical is affordable for the home gym on a budget - plus it folds to save space. You get a decent 18" stride which is suitable for most users along with an iPod port, built in speakers, odometer, workout fan and backlit console to make your workouts varied and entertaining.
Keep in mind that this is still an entry level elliptical - if you want something a bit more substantial you might consider the Nordic track Audiostrider 990. It also folds but has a higher 325 lb weight capacity, incline capability and music port.
